Here are some of my "Must haves" as a new mommy of an almost 3 month old little princess :)
Boppy Pillow
Cloth changing pad
I have a horrible habit of changing Miah on my bed (since she's still in our room)...and I learned my lesson after she peed and ruined our brand new memory foam pad. I had a couple of the waterproof cloth changing pads that you can put under the sheets in the crib so baby doesn't leak onto the mattress. I use these everytime I change her on the bed now. When I can't get the diaper on fast enough and she pees, all i do is rinse the pad, and throw it in the washer! I also love the travel changing pads. I'm 110% skeeved out by public restrooms, and i'm 400% MORE skeeved out by public restroom changing tables. So I throw down our plastic travel mat, and voila. No germies on my little one!
Swing
Let me preface by saying ANY swing will do, but I particularly LOVE our swing! We have the fisher price snug a bunny swing, and it's just wonderful. The reason I liked this swing and registered for it in the first place was because you can change it to swing side to side or swing head to toe. I knew some kids preferred side to side motion while others preferred head to toe motion. So to be safe, and give my baby the best of both worlds, I got this swing. Miah LOVES her swing. When she's inconsolable sometimes, I put her in the swing and within 10 seconds of swinging, she's calm. She's a child who LOVES motion and movement, so the swing for us is perf!!
Boogie Wipes!
My friend Erica introduced me to these saline wipes for babies and little ones! Instead of using a dry tissue, you have saline to moisten so you don't get cracked and dry! Miah has yet to have a runny nose (thank God!) but I use these now everyday when I suck her boogies! They smell great, they are moist (not sopping wet), and they're pretty cheap! I got a 4 pack at Sams Club for less than 4 bucks. Overall, i'm a fan, and will keep stocked up on these for the sake of my little lady's nose!
Shampoo rinse cup
Again, introduced to me by Miss Erica :) When I first saw this when she was bathing her baby Kayleb, I looked at her and said "Really E? You can use a cup and it's free! Why would you buy that?" She said "I thought the same thing! But watch!" and she demonstrated. She put the rubber piece to his forehead and pushed the cup back. The water completely stayed out of Kay's face & eyes. I was a believer from then on :) So naturally, when Mike and I went to grab our "last minute baby Miah supplies" I grabbed this for $5. Mike looked at me with the same look I gave Erica, and said "Really? You can use a cup Jess" (Hmm sounds familiar right? lol) and I then explained the magic of this cup. We use it for Miah every bath and love it, and I think she appreciates it lol.
The Miracle Blanket
Yes, I realize this poor child looks like a mummy...but hear me out! So, after much sleep deprivation, and Miah waking up every 1-3 hours, I was exhausted. She had her days and nights confused, and I have NO idea how to correct it. Enter, the miracle blanket. I looked up some tips for getting baby to sleep better, and reversing nights & days and found this. I read TONS of wonderful reviews. What stuck out to me most about this product was that it wasn't possible for Miah to kick her way out of this. When we would swaddle her with a blanket, she'd always end up kicking and punching her way out of it, only to not feel secure, startle herself, and wake up crying. We ran out and got the blanket. First night we used it she slept between 5 and 6 hours for the VERY first time. The concept behind it is simple, the baby feels safe! Her arms were "locked" by her side in a way, securely but enough to where she could still move a bit but not have the involuntary spasms that newborns are prone to. Within a few days, Miah had her nights & days figured out. I LOVE our miracle blanket and wish I had it the day she was born!!
Mesh no-slip bath seat
We have this summers infant bath seat in PINK (yeah right as if any girl of mine would be caught dead with blue accessories!! Ha! No way! NO BLUE ALLOWED!) Right now with Miah being so small still, I take baths with her and we both love it. (she could stay in the bath for hours *she screams when we take her out* if I let her, but we generally don't stay in longer than 10 minutes because i'm scared of the peeing or pooping in the tub lol) I hold her and let her splash and kick, and I clean her back and her hair, then I sit her in this seat to clean the front of her. She doesn't slip and slide out of it like i've seen with the plastic baths for babies. Definitely a win! :)
Glider rocking chair
This ones pretty self explanatory lol.We lived in our glider (from Stacy!) for the first 2 months. We still love it and so does Miah!
Baby view car mirror
I have no idea how i'd ever drive with Miah in the car if I didn't have this! I can check on her just by looking in my rear view mirror. She likes it as well, as she's beginning to notice her reflection and is taking interest in the pretty girl in the mirror! Definitely a MUST have!!!!!
Sleep gowns
These are what Miah sleeps in a majority of the time. They are so convenient, No buttons or zippers when you're changing baby, they don't grow out of them as quickly as other PJs, and they have built in gloves over the hands. Miah has a habit of touching her face A LOT when she sleeps at night, and she ends up scratching herself a bit, so we put baby mittens on her. But with these gowns, it's all in one, and in the morning when she wakes up, I can let her hands out just buy flipping the cuff. Pretty snazzy :)
There are many many other things she uses everyday that i'm thankful for (gas drops, desitin, baby powder, johnson & johnson head to toe & lavender sleepy time lotion, etc) but these are just some extra special things i've come to love :)
LOVE this! I definitely hear ya on the boppy, glider, and sleep gowns. I have never tried the boogie things, but always wanted to. Just never got around to actually picking them up. lol. I wonder how much different they are than regular wipees! I love the cup idea, but both boys like the water in their faces. hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI would add the bumbo chair to my list because Lukie LOVES it right now. I can actually cook! And definitely the moby. I love the moby and it gets him through church.
Anyways, love your blog! :)
