So, recently i've been noticing that my beautiful baby girl, smells like a mix of sweat and moldy cheese!!! She is bathed every other day (Which is a lot for a newborn who really doesn't do anything!). I would smell all over her body and try to figure out where the smell was coming from. I sniffed every part of this childs tiny body. Finally, I sniffed her neck and figured out THAT was where this awful smell was coming from. Just looking at her neck while holding her it looked normal and I couldn't understand why it was smelling so bad. I checked behind her ears (and sniffed inside of her ears...hey, couldn't leave one stone unturned!) and still couldn't figure it out. Finally, she tilted her head to the side and I saw a tiny bit of "white stuff" in her neck folds. I laid her down and lifted her neck folds, and ran my finger across and felt it was moist....then...i smelled it (the things mothers do...) ........I nearly hit the floor when I smelled it! I found the culprit...Nasty, gross, disgusting, NECK CHEESE!
At first it shocked me, because I always thoroughly cleaned Miah, from head to toe. I underestimated just how deep the neck folds are though, and completely missed getting deep down in there. I immediately jumped in the bath with her and we washed that neck cheese off. I sat there and thought "how the heck do I keep this crap from coming back?!"...She's only 7 weeks old, she barely has head control, and it's summertime. She's going to get a little sweaty and hot, especially when in the car seat. So, I decided to try baby powder, since its supposed to block moisture. Unfortunately, the baby powder itself didn't seem to work. I looked into it online, and discovered MANY moms use gold bond medicated baby powder for the same exact issue. So, I picked some up, and used it, and.......NECK CHEESE ELIMINATED!!!
Thank God! I hated that everytime I picked up my daughter i'd think "oh honey, you stink!!" I also felt like everytime somebody held her they only smelled moldy cheese and sweat and were thinking "wow jess, you need to bathe your daughter!". Like I said early, I bathe her every other day, but all the baby soap in the world isn't strong enough to go up against neck cheese!!! But now, I am happy to report, Miah (and her neck) smell like a clean, johnson & johnson/gold bond baby!!! Final score??? Mommy 1, Neck cheese 0!!!!!
