Miah vs.The carseat

Going out with a baby is TOUGH work. If I had twins, I don't think i'd ever leave my house lol. Not only do you have a gagillion things to lug around in that heavy diaper bag (forget about a purse! Only the bare necessities need apply!!!) but you also have a car seat, which adds 10 extra lbs to an already heavy and growing baby! So now, your hands are full........what would be the icing on the cake? Why a screaming child of course! Miah HATES (and I mean HATES) her car seat, with a PASSION. As soon as she starts getting strapped in, she freaks out and screams her itty bitty head off. Once we start moving the seat, she stops and she's okay....Until we put her in the car! If Miah isn't exhausted.....you better have the earplugs ready...because she SCREAMS bloody murder until she tires herself out so much she falls asleep. She has screamed for 20 minutes straight on car rides...I'm talking toxic meltdown here!!! She just does NOT like being strapped into her carseat AT all. Mike and I have become very used to this car ride routine with her, and we don't mind the screaming at all anymore. In fact, we talk to each other through it, LOL.Another thing we do is make sure if we see a bump in the road, or a rougher patch of road, we go over it!! She loves the bumpiness, and stops crying while we do that...but the minute were on smooth road again, the screaming resumes. We feel sorry for our passengers and make sure we forewarn them that they are going to have a noisy and bumpy ride in our car!!

We feel bad because she can't understand yet why she has to be in the car seat, and why she has to be strapped in, and why Mommy or Daddy can't hold her right at that moment. But, we also know she's fine, she's safe, and all her needs are met. The car is the only mode of transportation we have, and unfortunately it's unsafe & illegal to keep her out of her seat while in the car.

By the time we get to where we're going, 95% of the time she's sound asleep...but, if she's still awake, she is NOT okay with staying in the car seat anymore lol. We have to take her out of her carseat pronto. That means no stroller. She is nosey and likes to be facing out looking at everyone and everything lol. Most of our trips (like errands..) are strategically planned. We'll go grocery shopping after she has a full belly, a clean diaper, and it's time for her nap...because we know we can just put her in the stroller and she'll sleep clear through our shopping trip.

She's going to have to get used to the carseat, but in the meantime, we'll be providing complimentary ear plugs for our passengers :)

  1. Sucks that she hates her carseat though these days the boys aren't too fond of theirs. I have been loading up the twins and getting out of the house since they were 8 weeks old (not counting the million and one Dr appt they had because they were born with jaundice.) 2 carseats w/babies, a 2 year old, purse and diaper bag IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER. Yes, I am slightly crazy but our house was soo small I HAD to get out or go crazy. We have a bigger house these days but still stay busy. Now we go to the gym 4-5 days a week, go visit my Granny twice a week and go to my parents' house twice a week and then there is the shopping trips... Did I mention that the whole family has been to New York once already and we are counting down to our second trip. Seriously can you imagine the work it takes to go through security?!?!?! (They opened a line just for us at Laguardia last time...) We are an insane, busy little family. :-D Hopefully Miah resigns herself to her carseat.
